It was so good to see so many faces new and old at our open meeting this month.
We had a very interesting talk from Simon Myhill from the Hearing Care Centre. We heard how our ears worked and possible effects medications can have on our hearing. Simon told us that diabetics can have a lack of keratin protein which forms a protective layer within the ear canal, enabling wax to travel outwards and preventing over stimulation of the ear canal tissue. Absence or abnormal levels of keratin protein can lead to hearing problems. There was a lot of useful information.
We also had a visit from Hina Zahid a PhD student at Essex University Colchester currently working on a project that investigates various coping strategies utilised by people with diabetes across cultures and we just wanted to thank you for your help in filling out questionnaires for her.
Our next meeting will be in August with guest speaker Jo Banthorpe from five element acupuncture we hope to see you there.
